trueHabitat for Humanity Young Leaders Build 2016 (HYLB) brings together youth from across Asia-Pacific to support families in need of decent housing. Young people volunteer, fundraise and speak out for the need for decent homes as a way out of poverty and toward self-sustainability. This year, at least 1 million Habitat supporters from 15 countries and one special administrative region in Asia-Pacific are expected to play a part, take the lead and share through their social networks, to raise awareness and funds to fight poverty housing in the Asia-Pacific region. For the first time, HYLB 2016 will launch an Advocacy Grant Application.

Advocacy is one of the key programs HYLB 2016 will implement in alignment with Habitat for Humanity’s global advocacy campaign, Solid Ground. The program is requesting proposals from youth groups and organizations to apply for grants to support the implementation of advocacy activities. It aims to inspire and support young people’s advocacy efforts on decent and safe housing during the HYLB campaign period.

Apart from directly constructing houses, Habitat for Humanity believes that policies, practices and attitudes affect efforts on fulfilling requirements for adequate housing. Habitat also believes that young are equally affected, that they too have ideas and suggestions to offer to decision makers on making housing more affordable and accessible. Through this initiative therefore, young people will be encouraged and supported to share their ideas, play their part and lead in advocating for decent and safe shelters. These ideas can be presented in various forms and will be presented to policy/decision makers.

Deadline: February 15, 2016
