Model UN is a simulation of the activities of the United Nations. Delegates are tasked with representing a country, press agency, non-government organisation (NGO) or other actor in a particular UN committee. These committees simulate the activities of various UN organs, bodies and agencies, such as the Security Council, the General Assembly’s six main committees, UN Human Rights Council, the International Court of Justice and the World Health Organisation.

The aim is to pass a resolution on a particular issue, guided by debate, negotation and discussions between delegates over the course of the committee sessions. Delegates are presented with the challenge of best representing their country or actor’s best interest, while also cooperating with other delegates.

What is MelbMUN?

MelbMUN stands for “Melbourne Model United Nations” and is an engaging and intense three-day conference held over the university holiday from Tuesday the 28th of June to Thursday the 30th of June 2016 at The University of Melbourne, Parkville.

Model United Nations (a.k.a Model UN or MUN) is an international educational simulation and/or academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.

Delegates do not require previous experience in debating, Model UN, or have a background in international relations. MelbMUN accommodates to all tertiary students; and is a great opportunity to give new and old delegates a chance to develop their skills in diplomacy, speaking, and knowledge about the United Nations and international relations.
